Abstract:AI agents are increasingly being tasked with automating AI research itself, particularly the critical post-training phase that transforms base LLMs into aligned assistants. However, recent evaluations reveal that even frontier agents struggle to perform this task. While the success of post-training fundamentally relies on acquiring high-quality data, relying on agents to autonomously curate targeted training datasets from the open web introduces severe challenges. Executing the long-horizon tasks of searching, filtering, and balancing data within noisy web environments frequently overwhelms an agent's limited context, ultimately leading to degraded dataset quality and suboptimal downstream training performance. To bridge this gap, we introduce Andes (Agent Native Data Evolving Synthesis), a framework that reimagines data generation as a plug-and-play \emph{agent skill}. Rather than forcing agents to devise complex data-gathering strategies from scratch, \textsc{Andes} provides an intelligent abstraction layer. By leveraging a self-evolving World Tree routing mechanism and actionable diagnostic reports, it allows trainer agents to dynamically steer data synthesis through an interactive, closed-loop interface. We demonstrate that under strict compute constraints, equipping foundationally weaker agents with Andes improves automated alignment, securing state-of-the-art performance on PostTrainBench and robust cross-task generalization. Abstract:Vision-language models (VLMs) have achieved strong performance on visual question answering (VQA). To mitigate individual hallucinations and blind spots, aggregating diverse perspectives via multi-agent collaboration has emerged as a promising paradigm. While this approach has shown great success in textual QA, its potential in the multimodal domain remains under-explored. Existing multi-agent VQA methods predominantly adapt text-centric protocols, focusing on textual discussions while ignoring the alignment of visual information. In this work, we reveal a key insight: answer-level agreement is insufficient for reliable multi-agent VQA; \textit{aligned visual evidence} -- shared support from the image regions agents rely on -- is essential for trustworthy consensus. To leverage this insight, we propose EAGLE (\textbf{E}vidence-\textbf{A}ligned \textbf{G}rounded mu\textbf{L}ti-agent r\textbf{E}asoning), a training-free evidence-centered framework for coordinating multiple VLM agents. EAGLE explicitly exposes each agent's grounding regions as visual evidence, enables mutual verification over the evidence, and uses evidence consistency to guide final decision-making. Experiments on six VQA benchmarks show that EAGLE achieves best average performance across domains while remaining lightweight, interpretable, and practical for deployment.
Abstract:Low-resource target-language generation is often limited by scarce parallel data, while high-resource source-language monolingual data is abundant but difficult to use with standard supervised fine-tuning. We propose Source-Grounded Semantic Reinforcement Learning (SG-SRL), a resource-utilization framework that converts source-language monolingual data into cross-lingual semantic supervision for target-language generation. SG-SRL performs reference-free reinforcement learning (RL) on source-language data using a cross-lingual semantic reward model, instantiated by a cross-lingual reranker that scores the semantic relevance between the source input and the target-language generation. While this induces severe verbosity-based reward hacking, a lightweight recovery stage using a small parallel corpus restores fluency, conciseness, and task format while preserving the semantic gains. Experiments on Chinese-to-Thai generation show that SG-SRL improves semantic grounding and factual coverage over cold-start SFT. Additional analyses on long-form transfer and Tibetan embedding-based rewards clarify the generalization behavior of SG-SRL and show that an encoder-based semantic reward can substitute for an LLM-based reranker in a realistic low-resource language setting.
Abstract:Large Language Models (LLMs) are increasingly deployed in agentic and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems, where they must execute user-specified tasks over externally provided reference text. In practice, such context is often unstructured and contaminated with benign but instruction-like semantic noise, such as editorial comments and system traces, which should be treated strictly as data. We introduce DistractionIF, a benchmark designed to evaluate robustness against such distractor instructions in reference text. Across a broad range of models, we observe a consistent inverse scaling phenomenon: larger models are often less robust, with performance dropping by up to 30 points as scale increases. Mechanistically, our perplexity analysis reveals that scaling erodes the probabilistic boundary between robust and distracted behaviors, making models increasingly prone to over-interpreting noise as instructions. To address this, we demonstrate that reinforcement learning, specifically Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO), can restore this boundary, improving robustness by up to 15.5% without compromising general instruction-following capability. Our findings highlight a critical instruction-following robustness gap in reference-grounded tasks and establish reinforcement learning as a promising path for enforcing strict data-instruction separation at scale.
Abstract:Large language models increasingly rely on either reinforcement learning or multi-agent prompting to improve reasoning, yet these two paradigms remain difficult to combine. Directly applying single-agent reinforcement learning to multi-turn multi-agent systems faces following dilemmas: i) Sparse rewards, role-level free-riding and excessive training overhead. ii) Agents only imitate to collaborate. iii) Fixed collaboration protocol falls into oscillating local optimum. We introduce TRACER, a turn-level reinforcement framework for cooperative multi-LLM reasoning. TRACER separates collaborative decision making into a controller-regret layer, where controllers learn whether the agents should speak or skip the current round through regret matching, and a generation-credit layer, which optimizes proposer and reviewer utterances with role-specific GSPO rewards. This design i) assigns credit at the level of both action modes and generated utterances, thus avoiding free-riding and sparse rewards. We only expand the choices made by the controllers, thus greatly reducing computational cost of training. Moreover, ii) agents acquire collaborative capability as they learn when to utter and what to speak. Finally, iii) by designing binary actions ingeniously, we extend classical game theory established for finite action spaces to deep learning, thus achieving mathematically rigorous convergence. We train all local RL-style methods on the GSM8K training split and evaluate on held-out GSM8K, MATH500, and GPQA-Diamond to measure in-domain accuracy, cross-benchmark generalization, inference cost, and correction-preservation behavior. The resulting framework provides a compact and reproducible testbed for studying learned collaboration policies beyond fixed debate, voting, or aggregation protocols. Abstract:Joint audio-visual reasoning is essential for omnimodal understanding, yet current multimodal large language models (MLLMs) still struggle when reasoning requires fine-grained evidence from both modalities. A central limitation is that explicit text-based chain-of-thought (CoT) compresses continuous audio-visual signals into discrete tokens, weakening temporal grounding and shifting intermediate reasoning toward language priors. We argue that a unified latent space is a better medium for such reasoning because it preserves dense sensory information while remaining compatible with autoregressive generation. Based on this insight, we propose \textbf{LatentOmni}, a cross-modal reasoning framework that interleaves textual reasoning with audio-visual latent states. LatentOmni introduces feature-level supervision to align latent reasoning states with task-relevant sensory features and uses Omni-Sync Position Embedding (OSPE) to maintain temporal consistency between latent audio and visual states. We further construct \textbf{LatentOmni-Instruct-35K}, a dataset of audio-visual interleaved reasoning trajectories for supervising latent-space reasoning. Comprehensive evaluation across multiple audio-visual reasoning benchmarks demonstrates that LatentOmni achieves the best performance among the evaluated open-source models and consistently outperforms the Explicit Text CoT baseline, supporting latent-space joint reasoning as a promising path toward stronger omnimodal understanding.
Abstract:Extending large language models (LLMs) to low-resource languages often incurs an "alignment tax": improvements in the target language come at the cost of catastrophic forgetting in general capabilities. We argue that this trade-off arises from the rigidity of supervised fine-tuning (SFT), which enforces token-level surface imitation on narrow and biased data distributions. To address this limitation, we propose a semantic-space alignment paradigm powered by Group Relative Policy Optimization (GRPO), where the model is optimized using embedding-level semantic rewards rather than likelihood maximization. This objective encourages meaning preservation through flexible realizations, enabling controlled updates that reduce destructive interference with pretrained knowledge. We evaluate our approach on Tibetan-Chinese machine translation and Tibetan headline generation. Experiments show that our method acquires low-resource capabilities while markedly mitigating alignment tax, preserving general competence more effectively than SFT. Despite producing less rigid surface overlap, semantic RL yields higher semantic quality and preference in open-ended generation, and few-shot transfer results indicate that it learns more transferable and robust representations under limited supervision. Overall, our study demonstrates that reinforcement learning with semantic rewards provides a safer and more reliable pathway for inclusive low-resource language expansion.
Abstract:High-quality 3D scene reconstruction has recently advanced toward generalizable feed-forward architectures, enabling the generation of complex environments in a single forward pass. However, despite their strong performance in static scene perception, these models remain limited in responding to dynamic human instructions, which restricts their use in interactive applications. Existing editing methods typically rely on a 2D-lifting strategy, where individual views are edited independently and then lifted back into 3D space. This indirect pipeline often leads to blurry textures and inconsistent geometry, as 2D editors lack the spatial awareness required to preserve structure across viewpoints. To address these limitations, we propose VGGT-Edit, a feed-forward framework for text-conditioned native 3D scene editing. VGGT-Edit introduces depth-synchronized text injection to align semantic guidance with the backbone's spatial poses, ensuring stable instruction grounding. This semantic signal is then processed by a residual transformation head, which directly predicts 3D geometric displacements to deform the scene while preserving background stability. To ensure high-fidelity results, we supervise the framework with a multi-term objective function that enforces geometric accuracy and cross-view consistency. We also construct the DeltaScene Dataset, a large-scale dataset generated through an automated pipeline with 3D agreement filtering to ensure ground-truth quality. Experiments show that VGGT-Edit substantially outperforms 2D-lifting baselines, producing sharper object details, stronger multi-view consistency, and near-instant inference speed.
Abstract:Multimodal Large Language Models (MLLMs) have significantly advanced document understanding, yet current Doc-VQA evaluations score only the final answer and leave the supporting evidence unchecked. This answer-only approach masks a critical failure mode: a model can land on the correct answer while grounding it in the wrong passage -- a critical risk in high-stakes domains like law, finance, and medicine, where every conclusion must be traceable to a specific source region. To address this, we introduce CiteVQA, a benchmark that requires models to return element-level bounding-box citations alongside each answer, evaluating both jointly. CiteVQA comprises 1,897 questions across 711 PDFs spanning seven domains and two languages, averaging 40.6 pages per document. To ensure fidelity and scalability, the ground-truth citations are generated by an automated pipeline-which identifies crucial evidence via masking ablation-and are subsequently validated through expert review. At the core of our evaluation is Strict Attributed Accuracy (SAA), which credits a prediction only when the answer and the cited region are both correct. Auditing 20 MLLMs reveals a pervasive Attribution Hallucination: models frequently produce the right answer while citing the wrong region. The strongest system (Gemini-3.1-Pro-Preview) achieves an SAA of only 76.0, and the strongest open-source MLLM reaches just 22.5. Ultimately, towards trustworthy document intelligence, CiteVQA exposes a reliability gap that answer-only evaluations overlook, providing the instrumentation needed to close it. Abstract:Table processing-including cleaning, transformation, augmentation, and matching-is a foundational yet error-prone stage in real-world data pipelines. While recent LLM-based approaches show promise for automating such tasks, they often struggle in practice due to ambiguous instructions, complex task structures, and the lack of structured feedback, resulting in syntactically correct but semantically flawed code. To address these challenges, we propose ProfiliTable, an autonomous multi-agent framework centered on dynamic profiling, which constructs and iteratively refines a unified execution context through interactive exploration, knowledge-augmented synthesis, and feedback-driven refinement. ProfiliTable integrates (i) a Profiler that performs ReAct-style data exploration to build semantic understanding, (ii) a Generator that retrieves curated operators to synthesize task-aware code, and (iii) an Evaluator-Summarizer loop that injects execution scores and diagnostic insights to enable closed-loop refinement. Extensive experiments on a diverse benchmark covering 18 tabular task types demonstrate that ProfiliTable consistently outperforms strong baselines, particularly in complex multi-step scenarios. These results highlight the critical role of dynamic profiling in reliably translating ambiguous user intents into robust and governance-compliant table transformations.
